@  Murri55 : (01 October 2014 - 09:03 PM) You could also stop by the Technical office of your comune and have a chat....do NOT rely on what your realtor says! They will say anything to get you to purchase.
@  Murri55 : (01 October 2014 - 09:01 PM) always best to consult with a local architect or geometra before buying: I got a full renovation cost report and it did not cost me a lot: I was very glad I did. I also had my architect see various properties with me and help me select one according to my budget. I speak italian but he also spoke english: you can find them out there. In the end you will need a geometra, minimum, to submit drawings for any changes you want to make to the commune: best to find someone in good w. city hall, but Puglia is not so big, it should be easy to find someone.
@  Billy : (01 October 2014 - 08:04 PM) Do not  get too fixated on pools Paul, you'll barely get 3 months use of it.
@  PaulT : (01 October 2014 - 03:06 PM) Ouch, typo  .  a property we have saw..... sorry :)
@  PaulT : (01 October 2014 - 03:01 PM) Hi all, we are flying back in a couple of weeks to possibly make a decision on a property we have saw back in July.  Can anyone tell us how things stand with planning permission for pools. We have heard that Ceglie is more relaxed than other areas, is this true.  Thanks, Paul and Martine :-)
@  Admin - Colleen : (30 September 2014 - 10:08 AM) Best to head to Francavilla. There is a long road with various stores selling from economic to top range sofas. Think it is called the via Grottaglie, industrial zone.
@  lorenzo99 : (29 September 2014 - 09:31 PM) Hi could any one advise where to shop for sofas please in the brindisi. area  We know ikea in bari did not know if any other websites to look at. :)
@  Billy : (29 September 2014 - 06:50 PM) OK IAN, NEED BETTER DIRECTIONS!
@  Admin - Colleen : (29 September 2014 - 04:20 PM) Job offer available to be an English Trainer. Job in Martina Franca. Anyone interested, let me know. 12/15 hours per week.
@  303archery : (29 September 2014 - 02:19 PM) Hello Billy,  Back in late October.  hope you've finished the roof.  Hope you visit then.
@  Admin - Colleen : (28 September 2014 - 10:45 AM) If you put a cement base in for the pool to sit on, in theory you need permissions. Most people don't bother. not that I am encouraging it either. Not sure about metal or wood frame affecting the need for permission. That would have to be cleared with a geometer given the new restrictions on using wooden pergolas or gazebos, it may also refer to pool sides?
@  Admin - Colleen : (28 September 2014 - 10:39 AM) When you have pools in the ground not only do you have to have permissions, if you can get them, but exceeding 1.5 metre depth creates further challenges as you then face certain laws with regards the safety of those using it. For me this is stupid, someone can easily drown in 1.5 metres as they can in .5metres or 2 metres. But hey, that's the law.
@  2oldies : (26 September 2014 - 07:30 PM) Thanks for the info Colleen. Above ground pools have metal or wooden sides and are lined with rubber or plastic liners. They stand on a concrete base. Does the 1.2m rule include above ground pools or is that just for a pool set in the ground?
@  Admin - Colleen : (26 September 2014 - 11:12 AM) Sbrunetti - great views and lots of newbie restaurants away from the traditional meat. We now have another vegetarian restaurant / Slow Food which is excellent even for meateaters!! Giardini 36 for tapas and great wine and Mezzo Fanti for everything pugliese with a twist. My three favourites!
@  Murri55 : (26 September 2014 - 07:38 AM) Thanks Colleen! :)
@  Sbrunetti : (25 September 2014 - 02:52 PM) Colleen I understand now why you picked Cisternino, I was there a couple of weeks ago lovely little town with great views.
@  Admin - Colleen : (24 September 2014 - 04:51 PM) Welcome to the forum murri55! I hear Nardo is beautiful! Good luck with your new project!
@  Admin - Colleen : (24 September 2014 - 04:49 PM) Restrictions on the depth of the pool which if I remember is 1.2 metres. If you level the ground without putting a cement base, no permissions allowed but once you put cement in, in theory you need permissions. not sure I understand the reference to wood or metal?
@  Murri55 : (22 September 2014 - 02:26 PM) Anyone else in or near Nardo? I would love to meet up.
@  Murri55 : (22 September 2014 - 01:53 PM) Hello! here I am new to the forum, I lived in Umbria for summers in a nice house there and due to a divorce had to sell: having traveled to Puglia years before and loving it, I ventured back. Turns out also that a German ex pat married to an America dancer, Architect, has purchased and house in Nardo recently so I felt secure to buy there. My new modest house in centro storico Nardo! (can't make accents here :) Am super excited: he is teaming up w. a local geometra to do my project, and I have already met some wonderful people there.  This will be my swan song house I guess, since I am 61. I have some questions for you all: I plan to rent once renovated, during the high season, does any have a service that can help with that? Look forward to meeting people of culture and more of course, once I am there, I am an artist.
