how many different contractors to build a house?

Recommended Posts

It is cheaper to contract various professionals directly. How many should I consider for a new build?

Would this grouping make sense:

- general constructor (fundations, walls, structure)

- electricity

- plumbing/heating

- tiles/floors in cement

- windows/doors

- drainage/insulation

- pool specialist

Many thanks!

If the General Constructor has heavy equipment on site it would make sense if he also excavated for the swimming pool (+ cisterna & septic tank ?) provided all relevant permissions are in place.

You may need to be careful.

I believe that a main contractor may be responsible for all health and safety, and general legal compliance for the whole site during the entire build process.

If you look at any building project here you will see a list of engineer, architect, contractor etc.. may be a legal requirement for all but the smallest maintenance project.

Enquire further, you may avoid trouble!

Yes, in our experience archiemilk is correct - and we couldn't let a new person on site to build a base and shed until the old formal building works requiring permissions had been signed off - as you can imagine it was months overdue!!
